Democracy Action Network is a grassroots organization committed to empowering Iranians in the diaspora by promoting democratic values, advocating for human rights, and educating individuals on their civic and political rights. We are a collective of volunteers, activists, and thought leaders passionate about creating a future rooted in freedom, equality, and justice.

Meet the Team:

Dr. Babak Barmar
Since his graduation, Dr. Barmar has been serving as a nephrologist at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Martinsburg, West Virginia, dedicating over 8 years to caring for veterans, and at his own private practice Kidney Specialists PLLC, serving the patients of the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia and the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. Committed to medical education, Dr. Barmar provides teaching as an assistant professor of medicine to West Virginia University Eastern Division medical students and Harpers Ferry Family Medicine residents.
Beyond his professional achievements, Dr. Barmar has a deep passion for Iran’s prosperity, freedom, and its future. He is a steadfast advocate for democracy in Iran and envisions a brighter political and social landscape for the people of Iran. Dr. Barmar is equally dedicated to the empowerment and success of Iranians in the diaspora, believing in their ability to thrive and influence the political systems of the countries they reside in. Through his efforts and advocacy, he inspires others to take active roles in shaping a future defined by equality, freedom, and collaboration for Iranians both at home and abroad.

Ali Zebehideh
Ali was a student at the Institute for the Preservation and Promotion of Iranian Music, where he studied the classical repertoire of Persian vocal music (Radif) under the mentorship of Master Hossein Montasheri
After returning to the United States, Ali became actively involved with traditional Iranian music ensembles in the Washington, D.C. area. Despite his professional career as a financial auditor, his deep passion for Iranian culture and art has inspired him to continue his cultural activities.
Among his notable contributions, Ali has collaborated with the Persian Club at George Mason University and the University of Maryland, promoting and preserving Iranian culture through various initiatives.
